All smiles with Dr. G.!

Gracie had a 3-month check-up with her pediatric pulmonologist, Dr. G., last Thursday. Dr. G. offices near Medical City Children's Hospital where he takes care of sick kiddo's. He also works with residents at Children's Medical Center Dallas (in his spare time). Gracie was so excited to tell Dr. G. about Just In Case.  She gave 2 pillowcases to him so he could share with one of his special patients.

Dr. G. is a very knowledgeable, carying doctor. Also very personable; he talks to the parent while engaging the child at the same time. We have never felt rushed and in fact, Dr. G. takes plenty of time explaining asthma and answering questions. We are so blessed to have found him!

First Donation!

March 29, 2014 was a very exciting day -- it was the day we made our first donation of pillowcases!

Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, which is near and dear to Genesis' heart, is one of the facilities that is graciously allowing us to donate.  Each pillowcase was made with love and prayed over before leaving JustInCase.  We pray that our gift will be just what the doctor ordered, at exactly the right time!  We also pray that whatever child receives the pillowcase will know the Lord and be saved.

Mr. Charles was kind enough to give us a tour of the entire hospital -- what a spectiuclar place!

Our plan is to make a donation of pillowcases every 3 months.  So stay tuned....more fun to come!

Our product....

Despite a crazy February and March, progress was made.  The girls not only sewed pillowcases, but they also designed a card which will accompany each pillowcase.

Sister in Christ

Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 was a very special day. Not only did we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ but we also celebrated the baptism of Emmie. What a joy it is to be Emmie's Sister in Christ!

Sewing 101

Armed with a plan, an organization name "JustInCase" and sewing machines (not to mention LOTS of energy) Gracie, Emmie and Genesis were ready to crank out the pillowcases! One problem....how do you sew a pillowcase?? Of course the standard, sew three straight lines kinda pillowcase would not work. These girls have fancy taste, which is hard when your organization has a current budget of $ZERO. But never fear, Grandma Marie came to the rescue! And with patience & practice Gracie, Emmie and Genesis were masters in pillowcase sewing!

How it all started....

It all started in a small town in Texas.  Three best friends had gotten sewing machines for Christmas and were ready to tackle the world...but how!?!?

After the Christmas tree was taken down, outside lights put away, the girls began brainstorming how to put their new machines and sewing skills to good use.  Someone at church suggested they sew pillowcases and send to troops overseas.  Immediately, the girls knew this was exactly what they were looking for, however, because of personal experiences they would be sewing for children instead of troops.

Gracie has been hospitalized at Medical City Children's Hospital and Children's Medical Center numerous times for Asthma and other respiratory related illnesses.  The first time  was for RSV when she was 5 months old. The most recent was just at a year ago which resulted in a week's stay in ICU.

Genesis was involved in an accident when she was just 2 years old which left her hand  severely injured, with a prognosis of not being able to have use of it.  Because of a team of doctors and therapists at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, Genesis has full use of her hand.

Because of their past hospital experiences, Gracie and Genesis know the importance of "feeling like home" while being stuck in the hospital. Best friend, Emmie, has walked down the path with Gracie and been by her side numerous times.  These best friends have been inspired to create and donate fun pillowcases to comfort little ones admitted to the hospital. The pillowcases will be standard size and made from material only (no paint/glitter/glue/etc) and the patient will be encouraged to take it home when discharged.

On February 9, 2014 "JustInCase" for formed by three girls with big hearts and passionate about doing something in the hopes to put a smile on a kid's face.
